Cessnock City Council progress report

19 May, 2010 12:20 PM
It’s now just over 18 months since the current Cessnock City Council took office.

The council has had a period of settling in and The Advertiser is today presenting a special feature outlining what the councillors believe they have achieved in meeting commitment and promises made in the lead up to the election.

It’s a snapshot or report card if you like on what they believe they have achieved, the frustrations encountered and continuing work to have initiatives achieved.

Some of the lead up commitments made prior to September 2008 were:

* Build better rods, fight for jobs and progress

* Be accessible and accountable, bring balance to council.

* Fostering youth, creating employment opportunities, attracting industry, promoting heritage value, lobbying for a new hospital in the LGA

* Follow up 430 report recommendations

* Strong emphasis on road and bridge works

* Strategies to make community areas safer, minimize council fees and charges

* Provide suitable industrial development in the LGA

* Support tourism and tourism jobs

See the attached document for more on what they said.
