 Culture feast at Wollombi

Culture feast at Wollombi

27 Aug, 2008 10:29 AM
Wollombi Cultural Centre (WCC) will be hosting some exciting exhibitions over the next few weeks.

Laguna artists Penny Walton and Hadyn Wilson will be holding an exhibition to celebrate the coming of spring.

This is the first combined exhibition of this wonderfully talented husband and wife team. Penny is an illustrator who has worked mainly in children's books, illustrating picture and educational books. Her illustrations are often influenced by nature.

Hadyn has exhibited widely within Australia and overseas. He has won many awards throughout his long career as an artist and his work always has a strong connection to the environment.

Join them for drinks at 4pm on Saturday, August 23 for the opening of the exhibition, which will be open from 10am to 4pm, weekends only until Sunday, August 31.

Talented local artist Fiona Bateman, who last exhibited at the WCC in 2005, will display her current exhibition of paintings and mixed media for two weekends.

Fiona’s exhibition opens at the WCC on Friday, September 5, with drinks, nibblies and entertainment from 6pm.

Black & White, an exhibition of Aboriginal art by Peter Williams, will open at the WCC on Friday, September 19 at 6pm.

Peter, a Ngemba man from the North West (Brewarrina) of NSW, last exhibited at the WCC in 2005 and has been traveling this wide brown land since then, most recently based in Alice Springs.

This is Peter's fourth exhibition at the WCC and his works should be visually stunning as, for the first time, he has decided to use only black and white acrylics.

Joining Peter will be artist Lochie Dennis, of Walgett origin. Lochie's works are very intricate in design and reflect his great love of his culture.

This exhibition will be open for two weekends, 10am to 4pm, from September 19 to 28.
