Get up bright and early tomorrow and head to East End Oval in Cessnock for a free Australia Day breakfast.
The sausages will be sizzling from 7am, the singers will be shining and children will wear themselves out with games and races.
Cessnock's Australia Day Ambassador and celebrity chef, Janelle Bloom will be at the breakfast – perhaps keeping an eye on the cooking prowess of members of the Rotary Club of Cessnock and the Wine Country Lions Club as they cook up a storm on the barbie, befitting the best Australia Day traditions.
Organised by Cessnock City Council as part of the city’s Australia Day celebrations, the breakfast will truly be a family affair with prizes on offer as well as information stalls and demonstrations by the Rural Fire Service, the Volunteer Rescue Association and the St. John Ambulance Service.
Rotaract Cessnock members have been readying themselves for weeks, planning a myriad of activities to entertain even the smallest patrons and there will be a jumping castle to burn up any excess energy left over after the games and races.
All you need to do is take your sunscreen, a hat and a chair.
The free breakfast will be followed by the traditional Australia Day celebration in the East Cessnock Bowling Club, starting at 9.30am.
Cessnock City’s Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year and several other Australia Day Awards will be announced during the celebration.
A naturalisation ceremony will also be held, with seven residents (from the United Kingdom, England, the USA, Indonesia and New Zealand) to become Australian citizens.
For more information about the day's events please contact the Mayor's Office on 4993 4210.
