Grand plans for Mount View Road's Basin Park

03 Feb, 2010 09:26 AM
Major improvements are planned for Mount View Park, Cessnock with the plan due to go on public exhibition for 42 days.

Better known as The Basin, the works suggested would take place over a period of five years.

Cr. Bob Pynsent welcomed the report and said that exhibiting the plan would get valuable community input. He said the park contains a large area of land and it could then be opened up to other groups.

The park, located on just over 20 hectares has three Rugby League fields, two turf wickets an archery range and an amenities building.

The report to council said that preparing the draft plan involved talks with Cessnock District Cricket Association, Cessnock Minor Rugby League, Cessnock Target Archery Club, Cessnock Rotary Club, council officers and the general public.

The plan suggests upgrading the amenities building, creation of a Rotary Park recreation and leisure space on the Mount View Road side of the park that would include public amenities playground and barbecue and picnic facilities.

There would also be formalisation of the roadway and car park, extending the automatic irrigation and upgrades to cricket and archery storage facilities.

Copies of the plan will be placed at council’s administration centre, Branxton Post Office, Kurri and Cessnock libraries and linked to council’s homepage.
