Country music legend Reg Lindsay OAM is one of seven people nominated for induction into the City of Cessnock Hall of Fame.

The late Mr. Lindsay who lived at Kearsley has been nominated for the section dedicated to the arts and joins former Cessnock resident, author Wayne McLennan.

Former Kurri man Ian Harris, who had been a member of the federal public service, and Trevor King OAM, who had lived in Cessnock are in the public service sector. Mr. King had been a noted boxer and member of the Salvation Army.

Scientist Brian Turner AO gained nomination for science and in sport, those recognised are Debbie Lowe of Cessnock for hockey and Clare McCarty in the sport of walking.

Council's Community and Cultural Programs Manager, Simon Eade, said 18 nominations were received from the community, far more than any previous years.

He added that eight of the nominations did not meet the guidelines. With the remaining nominations and to maintain balance between the categories, it was recommended that seven be submitted for endorsement.
