Mr. Johnsen was one of three candidates who contested the preselection that was held on Sunday in Singleton.
The Nationals Duty Senator for Hunter, John Williams said all three gave impressive speeches and are to be commended for nominating.
He said Mr. Johnsen has been the Nationals candidate for Hunter at two previous Federal elections and is heavily involved in community groups.
“The people of Hunter are seeing the Labor-Greens government for what it really is. The carbon tax is forecast to cost many thousands of jobs in the Hunter mining industry, and the cost of living will continue to impact on families,” Senator Williams said.
“The preselectors chose Michael Johnsen to take the fight up to the sitting member and he will do so with the full support of the party.”
