Open day at Edgeworth David Museum

The Sir Edgeworth David Memorial Museum, at Kurri, located in the grounds of the Kurri High School, Deakin Street, opposite Greta Street, is holding an open day on Sunday starting at 10 am.

The event is part of the River of Black Gold Festival celebrations , giving visitors an opportunity of inspecting the museum's extensive heritage collection, as well as seeing the Hunter's largest Local History Library and Archives with over three million pages of history of over 600 Hunter Valley towns and settlements.

Brian Andrews, historian, and curator of the Edgeworth David museum will be at the nearby Richmond Vale Railway museum on Saturday and Sunday at 1pm giving a lecture on How the Coalfields Began 125 years ago in August, 1886.

The Edgeworth David museum has also provided photographic exhibitions as part of the Festival throughout August at Kurri Library, featuring Sir Edgeworth David, and also at Marthaville, Cessnock, featuring Early Cessnock. For information ring the museum's secretary on 4937 4418.
