The Wollombi Valley Wine Trail landscape will soon start to take on its now unique look at this time of the year with the launch of Sculpture in the Vineyards.
Wollombi, the picturesque historic village, located at the centre of the Wine Trail hosts this exhibition which is now in its seventh year and runs through to January 26.
Sixty-plus large scale and site specific outdoor works by local, regional and interstate sculptors will be set among the vineyards of Wollombi’s five boutique wineries taking in Stonehurst Cedar Creek, Undercliff Winery, Wollombi Village Vineyard, Wollombi Wines and Noyce Brothers Wines.
The curator, artist Tara Morelos, who has been involved with the exhibition for the past five years, said: “This exhibition showcases innovative contemporary sculptural works in beautiful vineyard settings. It’s a marvellous weekend away with a great mix of art, wine and country hospitality.”
Everyone is invited to attend the official opening in Wollombi on the weekend of November 7 and 8.
The community celebrates this occasion with a weekend of events. The Wollombi Fair incorporates music, wood-chopping, museum working steam engines, art and drama while the vineyards and cafes will have ‘street stalls’ as well as many other specialty local producers.
A large community lantern parade will officially announce the opening of Sculpture in the Vineyards at 7.30pm on Saturday, November 7.
It will wind through the village to the banks of Wollombi Brook in the Tavern grounds followed by a great evening of music presented by Wollombi Tavern.
Other activities associated with Scupture in the Vineyards include: Large Scale Sculpture Workshop, November 11 and 12 with Margo Gabsi at Wollombi Community Hall and a Time for Drawing Workshop on November 11 and 12 with Rena, a practising architect.
