The Cessnock District Cricket Association completed the final round on the weekend, with only a handful of matches completed due to rain.
There was just the one game started and completed in first grade, this being the dead rubber encounter between Greta/Branxton and Bellbird at Miller Park.
The home side won the toss and sent Bellbird in to bat. The Tigers struck form at the right end of the season, compiling a very healthy seven for 243 from their mandatory 40 overs.
Matt Fairlie (75) and Rob Drage (73) wasted no time at the top of the order, with skipper Andrew Howson (25 not out), Elliot Gyler (24) and Scott Miller (16) making useful contributions. Paul Walkling (3-25 off 6) and Damien Austin (2-46 off 7) were Greta/Branxton’s best in a tough day for the bowlers.
In reply the home side were all out for 109 to claim their first wooden spoon in 11 seasons. Josh Dagg (24), Adam Walker (23) and Scott Westwood (22no) all made starts, but it was the tidy line bowling of Bellbird connection Elliot Gyler (3-33 off 10), Scott Miller (2-38 off 10) and Dave Condran (2-16 off 3) that kept the Blues behind the eight ball all afternoon.
