Cricket returns to Laguna

11 Nov, 2009 01:09 PM
Cricket returned to one of the city’s furtherest boundaries last weekend when Paxton played Railway Hotel at Laguna.

The Paxton fourth grade side is made up mostly of players from Laguna and Wollombi and the ground is situated on privately-owned land.

Cessnock District Cricket Association President, Robert Stapleford, said the association has granted the team four games this season. It is a synthetic wicket and the association will review the situation with a view to allocating home and away games next season.

Mr. Stapleford, who has a long standing links with the association, said in his time he could not recall games ever being played at Laguna.

Advertiser editor, Bruce Wilson, who served many terms as recorder and publicity officer for the association from the early seventies, said he would be keen to hear from any old-time players with recollections of games played there.
