Weston Workers Bears had a win and a loss in the last seven days but still sit on top a congested Soccer competition ladder.
Last Wednesday they beat West Wallsend 2-1 with Rob Macbeth and Rhys Tippett getting the goals.
After trailing 1-0 at half time it took plenty of character to come from behind at a ground Weston’s winning form is pretty ordinary.
The 23’s were again disappointing going down 3-0 while the 18’s returned to form with a 2-0 win with Daniel Toohey and Luke Merchant the scorers.
It was always going to be difficult to back up Sunday and first grade was still without injured captain Chris Cousins and Joel Page was unavailable.
A controversial goal to Peter Haynes just before the break in the end gave Broadmeadow a 1-0 win.
In fairness Weston did appear to be a little flat and although the Magic are out of playoff contention they still have plenty of quality.
The lower grades went down 1-0 against sides at the top of the ladder but were unlucky not to share the points.
With the points table so tight the Bears match at Thomas and Coffey Park on Sunday is another that is crucial to their premiership hopes.
Weston are in the Solo Cup final which will also be played on home soil on Wednesday, August 4 with kick off at 7.30pm.
The Under 18’s play a catch up match prior at 5.45pm but in good news for all patrons Weston have decided to have a free entry night.
The Juniors had a mixed bag of results with the previous Wednesday the Under 17’s going down 1-0 and were unlucky to lose against Hamilton.
Weston’s 13’s beat Valentine 4-0 with Jayden Hinds a hat trick and Blake Roy the scorers in their last midweek game.
On Saturday the 15’s game against Kahibah was called off due to the rain and will have to be rescheduled for the second time.
Weston’s 17’s produced their worst performance of the year going down 4-0 to Charlestown United who are at the foot of the ladder.
The Under 14’s who have had draws against top four sides in Valentine and Edgeworth in recent weeks got back on the winners list last Saturday.
In beating Maitland 1-0 it will hopefully continue their improvement over the last month with Jordan Smallhorne the vital scorer.
Weston’s 13’s played out an exciting draw despite it finishing 0-0 against a side in Charlestown who occupy third position.
This weekend all of the four sides are on the road again with the 17’s and 15’s up against Valentine at CB Complex at 12.45pm and 1.30pm.
Weston’s 14’s travel to Morisset with kick off at 12.15pm while the 13’s face Hamilton at Darling Street Oval at 10.30am.
The only loss the 13’s have had was against Hamilton in the first round so it will be very interesting to see how they compare now.
