After 83 years of continuous play, The Oaks Golf and Country Club will temporarily close its doors for renovations on Monday, August 2.
The final weekend will have a gala atmosphere with specials and promotions on both days. There will be great prizes on offer, happy hour prices all weekend and special deals from the pro shop on clubs, bags, balls, clothing and carts.
The $30 million redevelopment project will deliver a new 18-hole Jack Newton designed golf course and a new residential development for Cessnock.
The new course will reopen later next year with improved facilities and 73 completed residential lots fronting the course.
The development also includes plans for a new bowls green, clubhouse and hotel, with the final stage of the development due for completion in March 2013.
Club consultant, Andrew Fletcher, described the project as a significant boost to the local economy and tourism industry.
“In addition to the jobs created during the construction phase, the new golf course will be a major drawcard for the region and cement the Hunter’s reputation as NSW’s leading golf destination,” Mr. Fletcher said.
The final members’ competition will be run on Saturday, July 31 with Jack Newton as a special guest and a two-man ambrose on Sunday, August 1 will be open to the general public.
The club is encouraging all past and present members along with their guests and visitors to join the celebrations and say a fond farewell to the current Oaks layout.
