Cessnock Tennis Club will be holding a fundraiser for local tennis player Michael Barnett, who will travel to America in June to compete in a number of junior tournaments.

A fun tennis day will be held at the club on Saturday, March 16 and will include a sausage sizzle, raffle and tennis games.
Michael, 14, trains at the club with 1978 Australian Open champion Chris O’Neil and was the recent winner of the Lions Club Inaugural trophy for player of the future.
He also competes in tennis New South Wales Junior Development tournaments and assists in the coaching of juniors at the club every Tuesday afternoon.
Michael will spend three weeks touring America in June and he will also train at Newk’s Tennis Ranch in between competitions.
Michael has been playing tennis since he was eight years old and has also tried his hand at basketball and cricket.
A Year 9 student at St. Philip’s Christian College, he is also a talented musician, studying grade six classical piano and grade five violin at Musitopia.
Michael lives with his great-grandparents and works at McDonalds, and would like to thank everyone who has supported him.
Cessnock Tennis Club want to show their support for Michael and his exciting journey and are inviting members of the local community, players and non-players, to participate in the fundraising tennis day.
An admission fee of $5 gives each person free play as well as organised double sets for adults and children as well as coach assisted group games.
There will also be a huge raffle with prizes including private tennis lessons, a $50 gift voucher for SSS BBQ Barn Cessnock, a DeBortoli Cellar Door private wine tasting and cheese platter, a Kooga back pack and a tennis equipment pack.
