The gallery may have closed within 18 months if it didn’t receive council funding.
Gallery director, Dr. John Barnes said the funding was enough to keep the gallery open well into 2014 and continue to grow.
“It will give the gallery the opportunity to pursue more funding opportunities and continue to build its membership base,” Dr. Barnes said.
“Ultimately it’s only council that can provide the operational funding for us to continue well into the future and to continue to deliver our education programs.”
Almost half of the public submissions council received on the budget were in relation to the ongoing support of the art gallery.
“I would like to thank everyone who wrote emails and letters supporting the gallery as it was these that really illustrated the breadth of support we have established in the region,” Dr. Barnes said.
