Students from local high schools Mount View and Cessnock High assisted Cessnock Legacy with fundraising for their Legacy Week campaign.

President of Legacy’s Cessnock branch, Max Lewis said this year’s drive had raised over $5300, and he was grateful to the schools, the students and the wider Cessnock community.
Mr. Lewis said Legacy Week is an important time.
“We’ve still got troops being killed in Afghanistan, and we still have war widows and children,” he said.
Legacy gives financial assistance to families affected by war, particularly to widows of deceased military personnel.
“We help pay all sorts of things,” Mr. Lewis said.
“If they’re doing it a bit tough we help with their everyday running costs.”
These costs can include things for children such as school uniforms and excursions.
Mr. Lewis said that there are more than 100 war widows in the Cessnock area, and only four Cessnock Legacy volunteers.
