Following a successful performance at the National Futsal championships in January where she competed for the Northern NSW youth under-15 girls’ team, Sophie has now been selected to represent Australia as part of a futsal tour of Brazil in November.
Despite the fact that she has only been playing futsal for the past six months, she said that the sport it a natural progression from the soccer field.
Sophie is currently a member of the Emerging Jets soccer team and said that she first started playing futsal as a way to develop her skills.
“Futsal is a lot more fast-paced than soccer and it is lots of fun,” she said.
“You have to be very skilled with the ball.”
This will be Sophie’s first trip overseas as part of a national sporting team and she said she is looking forward to the experience.
She is also looking forward to the start of the soccer season that will kick off in March.
The two-week tour of Brazil is organised by the Australian Futsal Association, with a 16-years boys team and 16/17-years girls team made up of players from all over the country selected to take part.
