Provenzano, 50, won the NSW State Pentathlon (masters 50-plus) at Campbelltown in January with a personal-best score of 3089 points.
The pentathlon consists of long jump, discus throw, 200 metres run, javelin and 1500-metre run.
At the NSW Country Championships at Wollongong later that month, he won gold medals for the javelin, long jump, 100-metre hurdles and pole vault; silver medals in the 100m sprint and high jump and bronze for discus.
Provenzano’s success continued at the NSW Masters Athletics at Glendale in February when he also won gold medals for long jump, javelin, high jump and 100m hurdles; silver medals for shot put and 60-metre sprint and bronze in the pole vault.
At the Australian Masters Athletics in Tasmania in March, he took out the pentathlon; won gold in the javelin and as part of the 4x100-metre relay (which set a state record), and brought home bronze in the long jump and pole vault.
Provenzano competed in the NSW Police and Emergency Services Games at Blacktown Olympic Park on March 22 and 23, winning eight gold medals, three silvers and a bronze from 12 events.
Over Easter he will be in Melbourne for the Australasian Police and Emergency Services Games, competing in nine athletics events.
“After that I will rest for a while,” he said.
A club coach at Cessnock Little Athletics, Provenzano was the 2009 Cessnock City Sportsperson of the Year after his achievements at the World Masters Games that year.
