Heart attacks can happen anywhere, at any time. Cessnock Minor Rugby League is now better prepared to face that situation, thanks to a donation by the Cessnock Rugby League Old Boys Club.

The Old Boys have provided the minor league with a defibrillator, which can be used to treat someone who has suffered cardiac arrest.
“With how big the club’s getting we’ve got lots of parents and grandparents out here (The Basin) every week,” CMRL president Stephen Mitchell said.
“Hopefully we never have to use it – but if we do it may save a life.”
While not a fundraising group, the Old Boys’ charter states that surplus funds will be used to support the development of local junior rugby league.
Other items that the Old Boys have provided for the Goannas include a TV and DVD player and food vouchers for the club’s volunteers.
All Goannas players and officials are welcome to join the Old Boys club. Membership is $100 and $50 every year after that; which includes a shirt, hat and stubby cooler with the rest of the money to be utilised to support the development of the sport at a local level.
