About 20 Mustangs will take part in the cruise, coming from the Central Coast, Upper Hunter, Port Stephens, Sydney and places in between.
The event has been organised by East Maitland couple Sue Wilson and Kevin Richard, who are proud owners of a 1967 Ford Mustang.
Sue and Kevin’s red Mustang came into their lives after a dinner discussion about their bucket lists.
“Kevin told me he had always wanted to own a Mustang,” Sue said.
“I encouraged him and went with him on his search to find one.
“In 2012 he found what he was looking for in Sydney.”
The couple enjoys dressing 1950s style and cruising out to Pokolbin’s vineyards, the Upper Hunter and on long country drives.
For Kevin, the love affair started in his teens.
“The Mustang always attracted my attention, but I couldn’t afford a car like that back then,” he said.
“I thought I would never own one. I am now semi-retired, and after shopping around, I found the car I wanted.
“The Mustang is a unique car with its V8 power and left-hand drive.
“It was the original American muscle car.”
The cruise will assemble at the Hog’s Breath Café car park in East Maitland from 9am Sunday and will depart at 10am.
They will travel past Greenhills Shopping Centre, through Buchanan to John Renshaw Drive and onto George Booth Drive, then along Richmond Vale Road to Mulbring.
The Mustangs will drive through the streets of Mulbring then back onto Leggetts Drive (via White Bridge Road) to Elrington, Abernethy and Kitchener, where they will stop for lunch at Poppethead Park (around 11.30am).
After lunch the cruise will head into Cessnock, then Kurri and onto the Hunter Expressway, where some of the Mustangs will continue into Maitland, some up towards Singleton and Upper Hunter with a number heading down towards Newcastle.
