Mr. Harris has lived in the street on and off for 40 years and said he has seen no major upgrade to the road in that time.
He said the only work that gets done on the road is the occasional tar patching, which he said causes motorists to drive in the gutter to avoid the wet tar and blue metal sticking to their vehicles.
“I think we deserve better,” he added.
Mr. Harris, along with fellow neighbours have sent several emails and made phone calls to council, but he said it has been to no avail.
As a pensioner, his rates are around $300 a quarter.
“But the only service we receive is garbage collection,” he said.
Mr. Harris is also concerned that the patching up of the road can be a danger as when the gutters are graded and it rains, all of the gravel is washed down onto busy Maitland Road, right near the pedestrian crossing over to Cessnock East Public School.
“Everyone in the street is fed up with it,” he said.
Mr. Harris said that while the filling of potholes gives a temporary fix, once it rains the potholes reappear.
“That cosmetic stuff is not what we want, we want a permanent fix.”
