The Bears led twice during the game and again paid a massive penalty for not converting at least four gilt-edged chances.
Jamie Subat opened the Bears’ account in the seventh minute after Jason Cowburn cleverly played the ball behind the defence.
After his first touch appeared heavy his pace was enough to gather the ball and delicately clip the keeper to lead 1-0.
The Bears bombed two golden chances within the next 20 minutes with only the Jaffas’ keeper Daniel Ireland to beat.
The misses came back to bite Weston, with Luke Remington ghosting in behind the Bears’ defence.
The free kick from Alex Palozzi saw Remington get a vital touch to make it 1-1.
But Weston only had to wait six minutes longer to regain the lead of 2-1 not long before the half-time break.
Youngster Brock Oakley, who has done well in recent weeks after joining the club this year, delivered a dangerous ball into the box; Jamie Subat got on the end of the cross and sent his shot into the far corner, much to the delight of the Bears faithful.
The second half was two minutes old when Subat was replaced by youngster Jye Mackellar, and two minutes later Mick Ryan was replaced by Robbie Turnbull.
Weston lost their ascendency over the next 30 minutes with Palozzi scoring a bomb on the hour to make it even the scores. Lambton got on top and at that stage the home side would have settled for a share of the spoils.
With 12 minutes remaining Mackellar was sent towards the goal after a neat through-ball by Connor Evans, but didn’t hit the target and the Jaffas got off the hook again.
With three minutes remaining Jason Cowburn stole the ball off Jobe Wheelhouse and was left with only the keeper to beat.
Cowburn shot near post, which Ireland saved and both clubs shared the spoils.
The under-22s, after leading 1-0 at half-time via a Jake Barner penalty, had two players sent off and were beaten 2-1.
Weston’s under-19s lost 3 -1 in a match they didn’t take their chances early on and conceded two goals within five minutes prior to half time. After pulling it back to 2-1 after Brad Millar scored the Bears were back in the game, only to score an own goal with 10 minutes remaining.
This Sunday the Bears senior squads travel to Darling Street Oval to confront Hamilton Olympic, who was surprisingly beaten 5-1 by last placed Lakes on Sunday.
With only six rounds left, the Bears could finish in the top two or miss the play-offs completely.
On Saturday the NPL Youth teams made the trek to Lisle Carr Oval to confront Charlestown City Blues.
The under-17s, despite being without their coach Chad Dobson and players Boaz Flower and Beau Harris, got the job done with a 3-1 win and kept their season alive. Goals went to Brock Lewsam, Nathan Hall and Jayden Hinds.
Weston’s under-15s now sit on top of the table after winning 6-0 with a brace to Jakeb Brownlow while Tom Cunningham, Matt Sokulsky, Caleb Hill and Brayden Mortimer all scored a goal each.
The under-14s went down 2-1 with Lachlan Yates the scorer. After being 1-1 at half-time it could have gone either way. This side sits in fifth position and can definitely figure in the playoffs with five rounds remaining, with one of the games being against South Cardiff which is for double points after their earlier round against them washed out.
Weston under-13s had a good 3-1 win with Ben Fuller, Dayanidhi Torrisi and Harlan de Jong all getting their names on the scoresheet.
Players’ player awards from the matches awarded by the Criterion Hotel Weston went to under-17s Joel Reddon, under-15s Thomas Cunningham, under-14s Jarred Schwager and under-13s Kyle Eriksson.
Next Saturday the junior squads play at Jack McLaughlan Oval against Edgeworth, with the under-13s at 10am, under-14s at 11.30am, under-15s at 1pm and under-17s at 2.30pm.
