Inkling was well backed in just his second start three weeks ago, at Rosehill, but was keen early and did not appreciate being restrained in the middle stages. He eventually tired to finish third behind Delectation.

"His work has been nice since," Parr said of the Peter and Paul Snowden-trained two-year-old. "He's still a baby and he's still learning. He's quite raw, but the only thing that's going to bring him on is racing."

Inkling has already opened in the red for the Kensington opener in a field that includes the likes of Sheer Style and Chris Waller's $500,000 Fastnet Rock filly Amicus.

Lightweight is right for Sam

His claim outridden and leading apprentice title sealed, Sam Clipperton can celebrate his last day in the saddle with a weight pull over senior jockeys and, he hopes, a win aboard the speedy Angel Bee.

The Team Hawkes mare created a stir with an impressive trial victory over a string of group-calibre horses at Rosehill on Monday and resumes at the Kensington meeting in the seventh event.

"I don't know a whole lot about her," Clipperton said. "If she can get a decent run in transit [from the wide gate] that will help. She's obviously going very well at home so she should run a nice race."

Clipperton chalked up his 80th metropolitan win via a double at Canterbury on Wednesday – officially shedding his claim a week before he finishes his apprenticeship.

Angel Bee headlines a handy book of rides for Clipperton, who will become the first apprentice to win back-to-back Sydney junior riding titles in almost 20 years.

He'll also be legged aboard Greg Hickman's Jarilee (third race) and Taxmeifyoucan (eighth), who will shoulder 60.5 kilograms in the last.

Carlton House should cheer HM

It's been a wretched week for the Queen, but she'll at least take some solace in knowing her Australian-trained runner Carlton House is nearing a return under Gai Waterhouse.

Only days after Buckingham Palace confirmed Estimate, which won the Gold Cup at Ascot in 2013 and was runner-up in this year's race, had tested positive to banned drug morphine, Carlton House will have an exhibition gallop before the first at Randwick.

Gai Waterhouse will also showcase Sweet Idea and Diamond Drille in another hit-out, while Victoria Oaks winner Kirramosa is due to step out between races. The John Sargent-trained filly has not been sighted on a track since her Oaks win last year.
