The Youth Olympics will include 222 events across 32 sports through to August 28, with approximately 3800 competitors aged between 16 and 18 taking part.
Nanjing is the second summer edition of the Youth Olympics, following the Singapore debut in 2010.

He will compete on Friday in the men’s javelin throw qualification, and if successful will compete in the final on Monday.
