The charity weight loss challenge, spearheaded by Anthony Burke, raised about $5000 for Ronald McDonald House Newcastle in 2013.
Eighty-five people signed up for last year’s challenge, and Anthony is hoping to break the 100 mark this year.
He said it was popular demand and the love of helping such a worthy cause that prompted him to hold the challenge again.
“We’re promoting healthy living in the Cessnock LGA and it’s for a great charity as well,” Anthony said.
“It’s about supporting people who want to lose weight and can’t, or need motivation.”
Anthony said it was “really meaningful” to see the funds go towards the sick children and their families at Ronald McDonald House.
With the funds raised last year, Ronald McDonald House was able to buy eight new ceiling fans, new DVDs and frypans and two months’ worth of shopping.
Entrants are encouraged to be sponsored for their efforts, with charity boot camps by major partners Anytime Fitness Cessnock and Fit 4 Life Group and Personal Training also contributing to the fundraising totals.
The first charity boot camp will be held at Drain Oval (off Dover Street) on Sunday, August 31. It is open to the public (not just Drop Kilos 4 Kids participants) and will cost $5 per person (kids under 12 free).
Meanwhile, the first weigh-ins will be held at Cessnock Leagues Club this Sunday from 3.30pm to 5pm and Monday from 5.30pm to 7pm.
Entry is $30; $20 of which will go to Ronald McDonald House and the remainder will contribute to prizes for the winners. Prizes will be awarded for highest percentage weight loss, highest fundraiser and most kilograms lost (male and female).
