The ties are just a sample from the larger ‘All Tied Up’ exhibition that is currently on display at the Australian Museum of Clothing and Textiles in Maitland, featuring more than 1000 ties from all over the world.
Committee member, Quorrobolong’s Letitia Plume, is responsible for the museum’s outreach displays and said that she approached the radio station as a way of bringing the display the tie collection to a Cessnock audience.
The museum inherited the tie collection from the now-disbanded Tie Society and Ms. Plume said that the exhibition has been very well received since it began in April.
“It is just something really different and very interesting,” she said.
“There are ties from all over the world, from all walks of life and from as late back as the 1800s.
“People have been really amazed by what’s on show there.”
The Museum of Clothing is run on a volunteer basis and Ms. Plume said that the committee are always looking for new members to assist with projects and displays.
The committee also offer displays and speakers for interested community groups.
The exhibition runs until the end of August and the museum is open Thursday, Friday and Saturdays from 10am-2pm.
