Kurri Rotary Club, who organise the popular event, made the decision to pull derby from this year’s festival program after a request from council to supply a traffic management plan.
Kurri Rotary Club past president Paul Hughes said that the club runs on a non-for-profit basis and that they simply could not afford to develop the plan.
He said that the decision was very disappointing, considering the popularity of the event in recent years.
The Rotary Club hope to acquire sponsorship for next year’s event, which will hopefully see the return of the billy cart derby.
This year’s Kurri Community Festival will take place on Sunday, October 26 and will feature a range of entertainment and markets.
