The petition at change.org asks NSW education minister Adrian Piccoli: “Please don’t close Wollombi Public School”.
The school has had low enrolments in recent years, but P&C president Lindy Williams said this is not a good enough reason to close it.
“We want families to continue to have choice and not to have to send their young children to other areas,” Ms. Williams said.
“Wollombi, like many small country schools, has always experienced fluctuations in enrolments depending on the local population of school-aged children. “If we lose this school now, we will lose it forever!”
The Facebook group is called ‘Friends of Wollombi (Public School)’.
A public meeting will be held at Wollombi Hall on Tuesday, September 2 at 6.30pm.
