The group has called for volunteers to join the event and do their part to protect this local nature walk through native bush that starts at Log of Knowledge Park and goes through to Lang Street, Kurri.

Tyres, mattresses, furniture, whitegoods, televisions and builder’s rubbish like piers and flooring are among the items that have been dumped on the walk recently – much to the disappointment of the Tidy Towns group who work hard to maintain it.

Kurri Tidy Towns president Beth Masterman said Kurri, like many towns, had some problems with littering and illegal dumping and holding a clean-up event was the first step to tackling the issue. 

“We have a beautiful town and a great community and we don’t want it spoiled by having rubbish lying around,” Mrs. Masterman said.

“We’d like to see everyone get involved in this event and take some action now for the future. 

“We have been lucky to also get support for this clean up from Crown Lands, who will be removing the rubbish, and Cessnock City Council, who will be assisting with publicity and the barbecue on the day.”

The Kookaburra Walk clean-up will be held at Log of Knowledge Park on Sunday from 10am till 1pm. Volunteers should bring a hat, water bottle, gloves and a rake.
