Narelle took out first place in the adult female Freestyle Unlimited B Class competition with Annette coming second in the same division.
Narelle’s son, 14-year-old Janszen also finished first in the junior boys’ freestyle Unlimited B Class competition.
All three athletes are members of the Hunter Academy of Sport Archery Talent Development Squad, with four members of the squad traveling to the US to compete in the championships.
The five-day competition attracted field archers from all over the world, with each competitor shooting 28 targets each day, each set at varying distances and requiring different shooting sequences.
It can take up to seven hours to complete every target, with shooters acquiring points as they go.
Coach Lynne Fairhall said that it was a terrific result and a testament to all the hard work put in.
“Our Hunter Academy of Sport competitors held their own over the competition,” she said.
“Janszen Cook was coming a very credible second for the first four days.
“Janszen shot a personal best score on the last day and won with a 17-point lead.
“The training and hard work that Janszen put in prior to the competition paid off and he never lost sight of his goals.
“Narelle Cook was formidable with her efforts during the competition.
“The archers had to contend with rain and heat as well as the odd cold snap over the five days of competition.
“This did not deter Narelle from taking out first place in a very close competition.”
