I wish to congratulate the letter writer, P J McAlpine for their excellent letter titled "What About the Other Side?" and to Southern Highland News for printing it.
This was an excellent rebuttal to the piece, ‘Protesting for a just peace’, August 6.
The only point that I would make differently is, in my opinion, what happened in Lebanon was not a civil war but an invasion by Islamist forces from Syria, Iran, Iraq, Libya and an amalgamation of others from around the world to crush the Christian/ Maronite/ Coptic majority (85 per cent) and deliver Lebanon to a muslim dominated country, or Dar el-Islam, Lebanon's sin was the triptych of evil, Christianity, Democracy and Harmony.
I had only been living here in Bowral for a few weeks when I saw two people holding signs.
One said "Free" the other said "Gaza". I immediately wanted to go into a newsagency and buy a piece of cardboard and a large black texta and write the words "From Hamas" so I could go and stand next to them and shout at the conflict from the other side of the world.
Their lack of understanding was breath taking.
What is important to understand in the Palestine Israel conflict is the main aim of Hamas.
It seeks to replace Israel with a Palestinian state. It also governs Gaza independently of the Palestinian Authority.
Hamas is funded by Hezbollah. This may seem surprising as Hamas is Sunni and Hezbollah are Shiite, the two groups which are currently efficiently murdering each other.
But where Israel is concerned they are united because each group has the common aim of the destruction of Israel and the complete genocide of the Jewish people.
There is no negotiation.
How the worm turns as the very countries which destroyed Lebanon are now, themselves under threat. The very groups which just a few years ago called for the destruction of the west and democracy and the deaths of millions now call on them for salvation.
I look forward to seeing the members of the Southern Highlands Palestinian Support Group with a name change, perhaps Southern Highlands Saving the Civilised World Support Group back in Corbett Plaza very soon calling for the deliverance and safety of tens of thousands of Christian, Druze and Islamic minorities from the barbarian's sword.

Containing an epidemic of fear
THE idea of a deadly and contagious virus with no cure is terrifying.
So imagine the courage it would take to nurse a neighbour who is sick from the Ebola virus, or bury your highly infectious wife, husband, child, sister or brother.
That is exactly what 1800 Red Cross volunteers are doing right now in West Africa.
They are going door-to-door to help their communities survive an Ebola outbreak that has claimed over 1400 lives and infected more than 2600 people in four countries.
The number of deaths is growing by the day and each death is entirely preventable.
Red Cross is educating millions of people to prevent further infections.
Volunteers are helping their neighbours to bury their loved ones safely.
Emergency hospitals are being set up in towns where clinics are overflowing with people sick from Ebola.
This is fast becoming more than a major health emergency.
Due to the health crisis, many communities are having difficulty accessing essential services, such as food and water. We can all lend a hand to control this terrible virus.
I ask all Australians to please consider donating to the Ebola Outbreak 2014 Appeal at www.redcross.org.au

The Benign United Nations?
CONSTANTLY meddling with incestuous tentacles is hardly benign.
Smokers beware - You are being screwed AGAIN.
Unknown to you, unseen persons will be at the UN's World Health Organisation in Moscow in October to debate and resolve on YOUR choice to smoke "E Cigarettes"
What right have these people - our unseen representatives at the UN and the UN itself - what right have these people to interfere with personal choices?
And for those so naive to believe the UN is a useful entity - then think again as its influence extends even to approved road speeds, in order to meet their "safety" regulations.
The UN is highly invasive, exceptionally dangerous and Australia needs to review totally it's dealings with that entity - especially as ALL dealings with it are done in accordance to their primary aims - the core being the UN as the Global Governance.
Ask your local member...They won't have a clue and there's nothing you can do about it all.
Is there no end to this systemic meddling?
