The Cessnock Customer Service Awards were once again a huge success, with more than 200 people attending the gala ceremony at Cessnock Leagues Club on Friday night.

With over 500 nominations submitted, the judges faced a tough task but settled on the following category winners:
- Community: Joint winners, Lesley Radnidge (Samaritans) and Alison Crane (Mai-Wel LabourForce Solutions).
- Apprentice/trainee: Winner, Kate Stevenson (Sternbeck’s Real Estate).
- Trade: Winner, Darrell Farrelly (Farrelly’s Mechanical Repairs); runner-up Stuart Richardson (Imagine Electrics).
- Retail: Winner, Kevin Sloane (Australia Post); runner-up, Amy Cagney (Beautiful Blooms of Kurri).
- Hospitality: Winner, Paul Cousins (Cessnock Leagues Club); runner-up, Gemma Trudgett (Legends Grill at The Vintage).
- Professional: Winner, Marlie Caban (Mallik Rees Lawyers); runner-up, Craig Smith (Choice Chiropractic).
- Social Media: Winner, LJ Hooker Cessnock and Kurri; runner-up, Cessnock Grooming Salon.
- Business Owner: Winner, David Fitzgibbon (Fastway Couriers); runner-up, Rachel McDermott (Elsie George Boutique).
- Overall winner: Darrell Farrelly (Farrelly’s Mechanical Repairs).
Mr. Farrelly, who has been in business in Kurri for 38 years, said he was shocked to receive the award.
“That’s knocked my socks off,” he said.
“We’re not a flash business, we just do our best and it’s our passion.
“It’s an honour and a privilege just to be up here.”
The Cessnock Chamber of Commerce revived the Customer Service Awards in 2010 and they have grown every year.
