Down 2-1 with nine minutes to go, it appeared the Bears’ hoodoo against the Jets would continue and a grand final berth would have to wait another week.
In glorious conditions at Rockwell Automation Park in front of a good crowd, the game kept everyone on their toes until the end.
Weston copped the opening goal in the second minute of play when Michael Kantarovski headed home from close range.
Bears coach Steve Piggott made further changes to the starting 11 with Jye McKeller and Mick Ryan going to the bench and Liam Thornton out injured. Robbie Turnbull, Jamie Subat and Nick Thompson came into the side.
Jets keeper John Solari denied Jason Cowburn in the eighth minute when his right leg deflected the ball away from goal.
Nathan Morris had a free kick cleared off the line two minutes later with Weston putting continued pressure on the Jets’ goal.
Connor Evans, who has been in super form recently, levelled it up in the 28th minute when he shot from the edge of the box. His precision was spot on with the ball passing just inside the far post.
Despite other opportunities the half ended at 1-1.
Weston had some great chances early in the second half but didn’t finish, which looked like it would come back to bite them.
Bite it did not long after when the Jets scored again from close range to take a 2-1 lead. The Jets had only three chances during the 90 minutes and converted twice while Weston had seven or eight golden opportunities.
With 20 minutes left, Evans was upended by the Jets defender Roman Hoffman and the Bears were awarded a penalty.
Morris cannoned his shot against the cross bar and the chance to go level again went south.
With the clock ticking down, it was all hands on deck in the goalmouth with the approaching Jason Cowburn corner.
McKeller and Ryan had replaced Subat and Turnbull as Weston sought fresh legs.
Ryan climbed high above the pack from the corner, powering his header high into the net and it was 2-2 and game on.
Weston then smelt victory could be achieved and a direct passage to the big day was on the cards.
McKeller burst into the box getting around two defenders then clipped the ball to the far post.
Ryan positioned himself perfectly and headed to the far corner, giving Jets keeper Solari no chance.
With only two minutes left plus injury time, Weston played smart, getting the ball into the corner to wind the clock down.
After a classic encounter which had it all, referee Rodney Allen blew the whistle much to the locals’ delight.
The grand final will be played at Jack McLaughlan Oval, Edgeworth on Sunday, September 14.
The Jets Youth will take on Lambton Jaffas this Saturday for the other spot in the decider.
