Trudgett (who trains with Cessnock PCYC) and Lantry, from Weston’s Team Lantry Boxing, will both compete over two days in the knockout-style amateur competition run by the Regional Boxing Committee of New Caledonia. 

The NSW team consists of five male and one female boxer from across the state and will be led by Australian Olympic boxer Jamie Pittman.

This will be the first fight back for 22-year-old Lantry after a six-year hiatus from the sport.

With three national and four state titles already under his belt, he said that he was very excited about getting back in the ring and hopes all the training has paid off. 

“I don’t get nervous I just try to stay focused,” he said.

“That is something me and my brother have in common.”

His brother, Tyson Lantry, made his professional boxing debut in 2013 and also represented Australia at the world junior titles in 2009.

The brother’s established Team Lantry Boxing in Weston a year ago and Beau said he is now focused on establishing a professional boxing career for himself.

This will be his first international competition, along with 17-year-old Trudgett who is relatively new to the sport. 

Training at Cessnock PCYC with the help of his father Steve Trudgett and Kerry Case, Bryce said that he is heading into the competition optimistically but no matter the result it will be good experience. 

“I will just be playing it by ear,” he said.

“We won’t know what we are up against until we get there so anything could happen.”

The competition will be held from September 12-13.
