A breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Craft has taken part in all but one Cessnock Relay since the event started in 2008.
With no family history of the disease, Sue was diagnosed with breast cancer in 1996 at age 46.
She had a mastectomy and six months of chemotherapy, and after a couple of scares in recent years, had another preventative mastectomy this year.
She said Relay For Life is a great opportunity to celebrate life after cancer.
“That word cancer, it used to be a death sentence,” she said.
“But they’ve made some fantastic breakthroughs.”
Relay For Life supports the Cancer Council’s research, education, advocacy and support programs.
This year’s Cessnock Relay will be held at Baddeley Park on October 18 and 19, starting at 2pm and continuing through until 7am.
Mrs. Craft looks forward to once again taking to the track with the St. John’s Anglican Church team, alongside her husband Wayne and daughter Kylie.
“It’s such a lovely community day,” she said.
Mrs. Craft encourages everyone to come along, walk a lap, meet new people and help raise money to fight cancer.
