Bishop of Newcastle, Greg Thompson will be conducting a service of deconsecration in the church grounds this Sunday.
“The first service held at St Thomas’s was in 1874 and since then it has been an integral part of community life,” parish rector Fr. James Cooper said.
“Unfortunately the building has fallen into a state of disrepair and the costs of making it safe are prohibitive.”
The service is open to the community, and there will be ample opportunity to exchange stories of the rich history this sacred space has meant to so many over the decades.
The service will start at 2pm, followed by afternoon tea at St. Luke’s Millfield.
