Perry finished the last season as leading trainer and trained the first winner on the seven-race card with Visual Image. Paul King, who won the jockey’s premiership at the track was on board the winner.
Perry also led in the winner of race five with the highly impressive Quell who careered away over the 900 metres dash.
The distance event over 2125 metres saw two grand old campaigners line up with more than 100 race starts each to their credit.
Hydrophilic, a 9-year-old veteran of 106 race starts posted win number 10 in a dead heat with Jaja Malu, trained by former Maitland first grader Max Boland. Husisname who finished third was having start number 102.
