The $400,000 upgrade commenced last Monday (September 22) and is expected to take three months to be completed, weather permitting.
Hunter New England Health engineer Justin Walker said that the all of the tin, flat aspects of the hospital’s roof will be replaced by Colorbond clip lock and it will be the first upgrade of the roof in over 25 years.
Cessnock Hospital senior nurse manager Jenny Whiting said that patients will be systematically moved between wards while the upgrade takes place.
Work will be completed in stages to ensure the hospital continues to operate business as usual and minimise disruption to patients, staff and visitors.
There will be no vehicle access to the hospital from View Street, with all traffic to enter the hospital via Foster Street.
