A little more from last week, was nice to see the teams of four girls in the same tennis frocks and the same colour. Was a nice presentation on the court, and at the conclusion of play all teams were presented with a certificate to remember their two days of play, although not all wins.
Also we were told by one of the spectators who had just returned from America that we made the best hot dogs, funny I made them but I do not eat them at all, one customer ordered three with both tomato and barbecue sauce on them all, but we do try and please all tastes.
The Tuesday ladies had six players and on the Wednesday only five, some were still suffering the after-effects from the hectic weekend in the canteen. Glen was the winner for the morning. This week with school back at study we might muster more players.
Friday saw 13 very enthusiastic men on the courts for play, one of the older players Tom will celebrate his 90th birthday in November so it shows that you are never too old for a game, so just come and join us for play, and keep on the fit side of life.
Saturday saw more for play with the weather warming up, but players enjoyed the morning, before venturing out for lunch. We hope Beryl is well on the way to recovery from her brush with the plastic chair.
Don’t forget the night tennis is commencing this Friday night, play starts at 6.30pm, so Nancy should have been contacted by now with your team.
Also there is interest in a new night of tennis for men commencing on October 16, so all men who would like to join in, ring Nancy on 4990 5101 or 0402 320 141.
On November 16, we are in the process of organising a new round robin tournament to be conducted on the Cessnock courts every third Sunday of the month. November will be a trial run to suss out the interest in such an event. We will endeavour to have it graded so everyone has a good days play.
I can remember years ago we looked forward to such tournaments and covered miles to play in them so hope we can set up tournaments to bring back the same interest in these events.
November will be the first month of trial as a group of players are going to Dubbo the third weekend in October to play in their Seniors Tournament as we have to return the favour as they attended our July tournament.
Some players will have been told that the Central Coast tennis has been abandoned which it has, so we hope to set up a new version of play to keep players on the courts.
