A crowd of more than 300 attended the night where there was plenty to celebrate as a club and for individuals alike.
The night before at Wests Leagues Club, Weston scooped the pool at the Northern NSW Football Federations awards evening – becoming the first club to win the four major awards on offer.
Connor Evans won player of the year, Steven Piggott was named coach of the year, Zac Sneddon received the rookie of the year award and the Bears won the coveted Club Of The Year award.
“The Coalfields club was the talk of the evening in front of the 400-strong crowd, which was a special moment for the proud club,” Weston FC football manager Shane Johnson said.
Then on Saturday, the club’s seven sides – from under-13s to first grade – were all in attendance which certainly set the scene for the evening, as it is rare that a club can bring all their sides together at the same time.
A video highlight package from vision taken by NBN television at the Bears games and interviews done by the club were shown on the night.
Life member and club legend John Munro presented the Player of the Year awards and also addressed the large crowd in attendance.
Such historic awards like the Neville Ridley Club Person of the Year, Jack Turnbull Youth Encouragement Award, Alan Cooper Youth Achievement Award, George Robinson Most improved and The Advertiser Player of the Year, which are all over 25 years old, were the main highlights.
Weston will host five Newcastle Jets youth competition games in their upcoming National Youth League season, which is another feather in the Bears’ cap.
