About 600 people attended the event at Baddeley Park last weekend, including almost 400 registered Relayers.
Committee chairman Ben Woolley said there was a great atmosphere at this year’s Relay,
“The track looked amazing; every team got into the theme this year and dressed themselves to the colour of cancer that affected them the most. The effort every team went to decorate their tents was absolutely amazing and helped to add the great atmosphere,” he said.
While the fundraising total was sitting around $40,000, Mr. Woolley said he’s confident that the total will be much higher as there have been issues with the new website.
Online donations can be made until December 12 at relayforlife.org.au (follow the links to ‘Cessnock 2014’).
Funds raised go towards the Cancer Council’s research, advocacy, education and support programs.
The Cessnock community has raised more than $650,000 through Relay For Life since 2008, and it is hoped this year’s event will help crack the $700,000 mark.
After four years on the committee (including the past two as chair) Mr. Woolley and his wife Lauren are standing down from the committee this year and would like to thank everyone for their support over the years.
“We have had a great time working alongside amazing people who put in so much amazing work every year,” he said.
“We have enjoyed helping our community and Cancer Council NSW in the fight against cancer.”
