According to Geoscience Australia, a magnitude 2.5 earthquake occurred at 4.39am Monday (October 20), about four kilometres south-east of Cessnock.
The second event was also a magnitude 2.5 earthquake, recorded at 1.40am Tuesday (October 21), about four kilometres south-west of Cessnock.
Geoscience Australia received four reports from members of the public who felt Tuesday morning's earthquake.
A Geoscience Australia spokesperson said as both of these events were small (under magnitude 3.0), an estimated felt radius cannot be calculated and the distance from Cessnock is approximate.
This week's events bring the number of earthquakes recorded near Cessnock in the past three months to six.
A magnitude 3.1 quake occurred five kilometres east of Cessnock at 9.55pm on September 23 with a magnitude 3.0 one minute later; followed by a 2.0 quake the next morning at 1.01am.
A 2.5 magnitude earthquake struck in the Heaton State Forest (20 kilometres west of Cessnock) on August 1 at 6.15am.
