The event is designed to raise awareness of what could become of the school – and the village itself – if the school were to close.
Committee member Kes Harper describes the property as an “outstanding sandstone gem” in the dead centre of town (opposite the cemetery).
“The property is walking distance to cemetery, shops, cafes and a pub but no school,” Ms. Harper said.
“Genuine offers not encouraged but do make an educated guess on its value as current owners have no idea.”
The mock auction will take place outside the school grounds from 3pm Saturday.
Wollombi Public School has been under threat of closure for the past 12 months due to low enrolments.
The SOS campaign has gained momentum, with more than 500 people having signed an online signature that begs of education minister Adrian Piccoli: “Please don’t close Wollombi School”.
A motion passed in the NSW Upper House on October 15 has given Mr. Piccoli or his department until 5pm today to release any documents relating to the school’s closure or otherwise.
