3.03pm: The wind has moved the fire south, past the Pelaw Main township. There is currently no threat to properties.
2.43pm: NSW RFS says that 50 to 60 properties are now in danger but that no evacuations have taken place.
Windy conditions are not helping the firefighters' efforts.
2.31pm: The NSW Rural Fire Service is using a water-bombing helicopter to contain the bushfire at Pelaw Main.
1.54pm: The Kurri Kurri fire is likely to impact residents in Neath Street, Wallsend Street, Richmond Street and Abedare Street.
The fire has been described as "erratic" by the Rural Fire Service.
Firefighters are in place and ready to protect properties at these locations. Residents in nearby streets will see large volumes of smoke.
Leggetts Drive remains closed in both directions and motorists should avoid the area.
1.40pm: A helicopter is water bombing near Leggetts Drive.
The fire has been classified as "Watch and Act". The RFS defines that "there is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing and you need to start taking action now to protect you and your family".
1.05pm: The bushfire burning in the vicinity of Leggetts Road at Kurri Kurri, north east of Cessnock, has crossed Leggetts Drive and is moving towards John Renshaw Drive.
There is currently no property under threat.
Firefighters have been positioned at a number of nearby properties as a precaution.
The fire is producing large volumes of smoke.
Leggetts Drive has been closed in both directions.
Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
12.47pm: Police have now closed Leggetts Drive in both directions near Stanford Street.

12.40pm: Firefighters are working to put out a bushfire at Hospital Road, Kurri Kurri, near the Hunter Economic Zone in Richmond Main .
The 40-hectare blaze is spreading and has jumped the railway line near the Richmond Vale Railway Museum.
At this stage no properties are in danger but there was a strong chance the fire may spread as it has reached open bushland.
NSW Fire and Rescue, with the help of Kurri Kurri fire brigade, are heading towards Leggetts Drive, Mulbring, to head off the spread of the fire.
Ten firetrucks and 40 firefighters are on the scene.
Light winds are aiding the spread of the bushfire.
