The 22-year-old advertising consultant said that she was completely shocked when the announcement was made, but that she couldn’t be more excited about the opportunity.
“I went into the competition looking to get more experience in public speaking and presenting myself to the public,” she said.
“I wasn’t expecting to walk out with a crown!
“It was an interesting and fun contest which allowed me to try new things and meet a lot of new people.
“I am really proud and happy with myself for achieving Miss Cessnock 2014.”
In what the judges agreed was one of the strongest contested fields in the quest’s 24-year-history, 18-year-old Madelene Hansen from Cessnock was named runner-up while 17-year-old Maxine Chapman was awarded third place.
Miss Cessnock City judge Rebecca Gillon said that all of the contestants were amazing.
“We are truly blessed to have such beautiful young women in the Cessnock City area,” she said.
“Our thanks must also go to our wonderful sponsors who have supported the quest this year, including Historic Guest House Mulla Villa, Hunter Family Jewellers, Linda Hinton Photography, Chelmsford Hotel Kurri, Laura Johnson from Lauratopia, Beautiful Blooms Kurri, Unique Design of Elegance and La Bella Hair Studio.
“Without your support we would not be able to hold the quest.”
Cassandra’s first duty as Miss Cessnock City will be at this Thursday’s Cessnock Carols in the Park, where she will assist Santa Claus in handing out lollies to children. She said that she cannot wait to start meeting new people around town.
