Donated as part of the mine’s annual Community Support Program, the funds are designed to assist those groups and initiatives, which may otherwise struggle to acquire necessary financial support to help make a difference in the local area.
Successful recipients of this year’s donations include $5000 for Kurri Preschool, $4250 for Cessnock Amateur Swimming Club, $4000 to Cessnock Minor Rugby League, and $950 to Cessnock Croquet Club.
Kurri Preschool’s funds will be put towards their Speech Therapy program, which is used in identifying children with developmental delays and implementing an assistance program with input from speech pathologists, families and educators to help correct speech problems.
Cessnock Amateur Swimming Club’s funds will go to their ‘Learn to Swim’ coaching program while Cessnock Minor Rugby League will use the money to purchase a new scoreboard to be erected at Mount View Park, Cessnock.
Cessnock Croquet Club will use the funds to purchase a new cylinder lawn mower. Donaldson Coal calls for formal applications twice a year, with local community groups invited to submit their applications across the categories of education, environment, health, infrastructure projects, arts, leisure and research.
