Born in England, Levy played at a national league level playing for various rugby union clubs. Each year of playing he was selected for representative grade and started for his county. Levy also competed in the UK national seven’s series with his team winning over 18 tournaments in United Kingdom and Europe including the Belgium and Swiss International Sevens. He regularly competed in the top international invitation tournaments including Las Vegas, Amsterdam, Newquay and Bournemouth.
Levy’s coaching credentials include appointments as rugby coach for clubs such as Buckinghamshire and the London Wasps (2004-2007) where he worked with school children coaching rugby at a junior level. His next role was as Essex Development and Community Rugby League Coach (2010-2012) where Levy was required to deliver and monitor a comprehensive coaching programme in line with the Rugby Football League’s strategic objectives within Essex. In this position Levy was successful in creating over 40 new teams within schools, clubs and universities in Essex. After arriving in Australia and settling in Cessnock, Levy was keen to continue playing rugby union and was a member of the 2014 Pokolbin Rugby Club seniors’ team.
Levy will now both coach and play for the Pokolbin Reds who will be fielding a team in the 2015 NHRU competition. Training is scheduled to take place on Tuesday and Thursday nights at 6.30pm at Hunter Valley Gardens Oval with the first training session on Thursday, January 22.
His appointment has been welcomed by the club and senior players. According to Club President Jerome Scarborough, the enthusiasm the players exhibited during this year’s season has continued in the off season with players signing up for the Mudgee Sevens and other local sevens competitions. He said the appointment of Levy as coach will ensure a solid preparation for 2015.
“Elliott is already a popular member of our Pokolbin Reds team and is highly respected for his experience and knowledge of the game,” he said.
“We are looking forward to the season ahead and encourage anyone out there who would like a run on the paddock to come along to one of the training sessions in the New Year.”
