Big Money stormed home over the final stages to claim the 1200 metre feature sprint by one and a half lengths.
The Rodney Northam-trained gelding picked up $128,000 first prize, taking its career earnings to $487,160 from eight wins and four minor placings from 14 starts.
Big Money was coming off a Melbourne Spring campaign where he ran a great fourth in the Caulfield Sprint and was then unplaced in the TAB.com.au stakes after getting its tongue over the bit.
That was on November 1 and Northam had freshened Big Money for a crack at last Saturday’s feature.
Thompson continued his close association with another trainer Liam Birchley to win on Parraggi in the 2000 metres event in a length of the straight battle with Shotover River.
Thompson had a busy schedule after riding the Rod Northam trained Myamira in the Mudgee Cup on Friday , finishing out of a place.
