This Sunday, Cessnock Senior cricket side will travel to Tamworth to play the Tamworth Colts in the quarter finals of the state-wide Country Shield. After convincing wins over Warnervale, Maitland and Brisbane Waters the side is full of confidence heading into Sunday’s match.

The team to take on Tamworth Colts consists of Jason Orr (Bellbird), Drew Olsen (Mulbring), Joshua Dagg (Greta/Branxton), Damien Frize (Greta/Branxton), Andrew Carmichael (Mulbring), Greg Sheehan (Mulbring), Greg Andrews (Greta/Branxton), Barry Richards (Greta/Branxton), Nathan Stapleford (Supporters), Matt Tomlinson (Bellbird), Tim Goldman (Supporters) and captain Brent Watson (Greta/Branxton). The number Tamworth number one oval has been conducive to large club scores this year and Cessnock will be looking to their strong top order to lead the way.
Jason Orr has cemented himself as the competitions best batsmen and will be looking to show that form at the next level.He along with Drew Olsen, who’s representative form saw him selected in the recent Central North side to contest the NSW Country Championships, will look to get the side off to another strong start.
A strong start by Olsen, Orr, Dagg and Frize will allow Cessnock’s hard hitting middle order to do some damage on Tamworth’s usual lifeless pitches.
With match turning innings against Maitland and Brisbane Waters, Greg Sheehan, again holds the key to the hopes of Cessnock.
With the ball, Cessnock will be looking to openers Brent Watson and a resurgent Nathan Stapleford, whom has been the stand out in wins over Maitland and Brisbane Waters, to lead the way.
Bellbirds, Matt Tomlinson, will be crucial on a pitch that will be very batsmen friendly. His strong line and length will help contain a Tamworth batting line-up that boasts some of best cricketers in country cricket.
With a win this weekend, Cessnock would qualify for the semi-finals to again be contested in Tamworth on December 29.
The Cessnock John Bull side, which is made up of the above cricketers, have qualified number one in their pool and will play Newcastle C&S in the semi-finals of that competition on January 11. The other semi-final will be contested between Singleton and Maitland.
