In first grade Bellbird opening batsman Jason Orr posted his fourth century already this season in his team’s 139-run thrashing of Wine Country at Carmichael 1.
It was Orr’s third century in district cricket after posting one in the opening round of the representative season. He smacked 10 boundaries and five Dorothys in a fine innings of 109 to set up victory for his side.
Wine Country skipper Stephen Hedger won the toss and thought a little moisture around may have assisted his bowlers, but how wrong he was as the Tigers scored freely to post 6-236 from their 40 overs.
Orr’s fine century was well supported by tradesman Shannon Attewell’s 38, along with Nic Siers (29no), Matt Tomlinson (27no), and skipper Rob Drage (24). Peter Auditore was easily the best of the Wine Country attack with 4-50 off 10.
The Wood Ducks were on the back foot early in reply when they lost their form bats Hedger (6), Mark O’Hara (0) and Matt Lightfoot (14) cheaply, and they were eventually all out inside 29 overs for 97.
Nathan Wright top-scored with 26, with Robbie Sidebottom (23) and Ryan Maxwell (14) making starts.
In a big day for the Orr family Billy Orr backed up his younger brother’s ton by taking the new cherry and returning great figures of 5-30 off nine. Dave Gyler (3-16 off five) and Tomlinson (2-30 off 7.3) were as usual very productive with the four-piece.
Peden’s Hotel vs Supporters at East End and Greta/Branxton vs Mulbring at Miller 1 were both washed out.
