And each year, law firm Clayton Utz donates the presents and co-ordinates with Qantas to deliver the presents free of charge to Mount Isa.
Father Mick’s men’s group then delivers them to the needy.
Father Mick said it was a great gesture and that the real meaning of Christmas could sometimes be forgotten.
‘‘This is a wonderful gesture of both Clayton Utz, who donate boxes of gifts, and Qantas for bringing them to our city at no cost,’’ he said.
‘‘Sometimes we lose the real meaning of Christmas, but when you see actions such as this, when two major companies work together out of the glare of publicity to bring Christmas cheer to so many people, this to me is what the Christmas message is about.
‘‘On behalf of those people who will get to share these presents, I thank Clayton Utz and Qantas for once again helping to bring the Christmas message to so many of our needy people.’’
Qantas Queensland regional manager Peter Collyns said Qantas had been doing this drive for seven years and was glad to help the children of Mount Isa.
‘‘Qantas has delivered hundreds of Christmas presents to the children of Mount Isa as part of this charity drive over the last seven years and we’re proud to be part of it again in 2014,’’ he said.
‘‘Since the airline was founded in Queensland in 1920, Qantas has played an active role in helping and improving the communities in which we operate.
‘‘We’re delighted to be part of such a great cause for the Mount Isa community.’’
